Unfortunately Wrong about HistoryJun 22, 2011
By M. Ellis I was so excited about this book at first. It is laid out in such a nice way, covering some great topics. Then I got to the parts about religions and was so disappointed at the way the author portrays the Catholic Church. The author obviously does not know Church history or the true beliefs of Catholics. When talking about the Puritans, they say that "some people in England believed in the Bible", comparing that to Roman Catholicism. I wonder if the author knows who actually compiled the Bible. If not, the answer is: the Catholic Church. If anyone believes in the Bible, it is Catholics. The version of the Bible that non-Catholic Christians use is one which was changed in the 1500's by Martin Luther. Non-Catholic Christians are following an abridged Bible that has only been around for 500 years or so. When Martin Luther decided that each person could interpret the Bible, there became many arguments about what the Bible actually meant. If the Holy Spirit were guiding each of those people, how could arguments ensue? I'm just so sad that "Heritage Studies" does not know enough about Catholicism to portray history properly and that it feels the need to add "jabs" about the Catholic Church. And I'm so sad that so many Christians do not know the whole story. If they did, surely they would see the fullness of truth that they are missing and this would lead them to such greater fulfillment, taking full participation in the beautiful Church, the Bride of Christ, that Jesus himself intended.
