"The Old Testament is the perfect place to start teaching history since it truly starts at the beginning. Many of us shy away from such a study because of the difficulties we might encounter, but the Shearers have made it much easier with this guide." - Cathy Duffy One of Cathy Duffy's "Top 100 Picks for Homeschool Curriculum." | | | Product Details: | | | Author:

Excellent guide to help teach children ancient history.Nov 14, 1999
The Greenleaf Guide is an excellent resource to help you teach your children ancient history and Old Testament history. For each lesson, you read a chapter or so of the Old Testament. The guide then gives you questions to discuss, explanations of the historical setting, as well as suggestions for how to handle "complicated" readings from the Bible. The guide is helpful even if you want to read it to study Old Testament history yourself.

Old Testament The Painless Way!May 03, 2000
By Mrs. Lori Newton As we have used this guide through the past year I would say that it is fairly simple & straight forward in style. It uses a question format that's easy to use. Read a few passages of bible text & pose the questions from the guide. Even our 4 & 6 year olds like to give a try at answering the questions though it is geared to older children!

Good study designed for young studentsAug 05, 2003
By Kathleen Funk My 8 year old son and I read through the Old Testament's historical books using this book as our guide to discussion topics. The Shearer's have presented some interesting questions and comments on the Old Testament scriptures and I found myself learning almost as much as my son did! I would recommend this book for parents with children in elementary school, or even older.

This is our 2nd copy of the Greenleaf Guide to the Old Testament. We wore the first one out after about 8 years. So we are fans. It gives you great questions that are a great starting point discussions. It helps the kids think through what we've just read.

Excellent & Easy to Use ResourceAug 01, 2011
By Stephanie Wright I used this with our children in our homeschool. It is wonderful for multi-age teaching as you are able to help younger ones understand the material without boring the older ones. I love it and would highly recommend the whole Greenleaf Guide series. We used all that were available at the time. We are now buying another copy so that my husband can use it as a Sunday School resource for our church.
