good but not greatSep 23, 2010

I'd heard so much about the Rosetta Stone, but I was a little disappointed. It's great in that it uses all learning styles to learn the language. It works great for me but not so good for my 6-yr-old. You really need to be reading to get the full benefit from this program. Also, I've had a lot of trouble installing and using it. I must say, there is a toll-free number that you can call for help. You may be on hold a while and have to be bumped up a tier because the person can't figure out your problem, but EVENTUALLY, you'll get the problem solved.

Great for tracking student's successApr 24, 2011
By J. Gerth This has been good for my teen daughter, who had never studied a foreign language before. Like all Rosetta Stone products, it uses immersion and repetition to teach and utilizes spoken words, written words, and pictures. Any child old enough to read English decently well could use this program. The homeschool edition includes more "curriculum" choices, including one that spreads each level across a full year of school, with a fairly small amount of work for each day.
For my husband and I, who have both learned other languages, even the faster-paced Rosetta Stone curricula are frustrating. We have learned to prefer the traditional verb tables and lists of vocabulary to memorize and learn faster that way.
Though registering the program did lock me out of putting it on a second computer in the house, Rosetta Stone's support helped me through installing it on a second computer without any problems.

Unhappy with homeschool versionDec 27, 2011
By J. Barney The homeschooling version 3 is designed to give all the users in your homeschooling family access to the program with parental controls in order to assign and keep track of assignments. The BIG problem with this is that the licence is only good for two computers! If you have more than one student, you might as well forget it! Of course you can have up to five users on each computer, but I have four users each with their own computers. We are big on technology and sharing computers for anything is simply not how we use technology. I contacted tech support to ask if I could put it on our home server and have everyone access it that way. I was told no. I was then told to contact sales and consider buying a business version. Um... no thanks. I will have to find another company for our foreign language needs.

Rosetta Stone not worth the moneySep 04, 2010
By Neysa K Leichty Learning a language requires comprehensible input and Rosetta Stone does not always give that. Without translation the student is left to guess at what is being taught. In addition to a lack of comprehensible input, there are grammatical errors in the French program. Students will gain at best a working passive language skill.
