Basic learning guideNov 21, 2011
By L. Lee Rosetta Stone has developed a quick method to learn the basics of a new language. Visual and interactive, Rosetta Stone makes it fun to learn a new language. The software does not provide any translation or definition-- a total immersion approach similar to a college language course. It uses repetition as the primary learning mechanism. Most of the exercises focus on reading and listening. It includes some speaking and limited writing. Rosetta Stone does not supplant a comprehensive education. It does not explain sentence structure and parts of speech and lacks vocabulary. Taught in mostly phrases or single sentences, it functions similar to a dummy guide. An excellent basic immersion tool for vacationers, but a textbook is necessary for the thorough understanding of French.
