Very challenging but worth gettingDec 15, 2010
By A. Luce We got this game for my boys, ages 8 and 10. It's a great concept: you get variously shaped wooden blocks and a set of cards (in increasing difficulty) that show on one side a 3-D picture of a structure you are to re-create with the blocks shown. On the reverse side is the "answer" of how to put the blocks together to form that structure.
I am admittedly not a spatial person but I figured I could do the easy level cards without a problem. Not so! Even my husband, who is an engineer, was surprised at the difficulty of the "easy" ones. We didn't even consider the expert level.
My boys did get frustrated with the game at times, and so I would recommend trying out a few cards yourself first and then guiding your kids them a lot initially and then less so as they catch on.
One difficulty is that you get 3 different sized triangular blocks. But when you look at a card and it tells you that you need 2 triangular blocks, it's hard to tell which size you need.
Also, some of the structures you create requuire some finessing I was not expecting. For example, the very first card: the structure was easy enough to make but nearly impossible to balance so that it stayed standing on its own.
Another example: in one case, you must form a rectangular arch. To do so, you have to rest a block on a few millimeters of another block, sharing the rest of its space with yet another block. I was expecting a "cleaner" solution to this one.
So all in all, it's worth getting to challenge spatial intelligence but be advised it's not easy and that kids (and grown ups) will need to manage their expectations of what they will accomplish!
We found that Mighty Mind's Basic Edition "game" more do-able. The shapes are brightly colored and the pictures you create are 2-D. It's a good place to start and then work up to Blik Blok.

Good toy for kids (and adults) with good spacial skillsJan 05, 2008
By S_S My son asked for this for his birthday. Blocks are nice and smooth and come with many cards to build shapes. This toy is like a 3D tangram. However, if you are not very good at spacial tasks (like me) this will be very hard for you, I could barely do the easiest cards.
Great toy for kids and adultsJan 04, 2011
By Donald Kollmorgen Our five and seven year old kids enjoy this toy. It's different enough to keep them entertained and it gets their mind active as they try to figure out how to make the different shapes.
my kids love this!Mar 15, 2010

Purchased for my children for Christmas. They will play with these for hours, and I love to watch them figure out the many different ways you can assemble the blocks. Very educational - one of my favorite purchases!
