"Dumbed-Down" Version of Old "Challenging Word Problems" SeriesSep 06, 2009

I've been using the Singapore Challenging Word Problems series in my homeschool and love how it takes my student to the next level in applying the material she's learned. The whole point is to provide an intellectual challenge beyond her normal curriculum. I was dismayed to hear that Singapore Math had decided to discontinue the CWP series.
I saw this book at my local bookstore and was curious to see how it compared with CWP. What a big disappointment to see how "dumbed-down" it is. Typical stupid Americans wanting material aimed at the lowest common denominator rather than trying to stretch our brightest minds. Big thumbs-down!

Wasting of paper and your money.Oct 20, 2009

I didn't like this book. First of all this is a huge waste of paper. One sentense-word problem on every page and every answer takes a whole page also. I couldn't belive it.
I couldn't find a single word problem which I wanted to give my son to solve, they all so primitive. And I have the same opinion about Level 1 from this series.
Math, Grade 3: 70 Must-Know Word Problems (Singapore Math)Dec 06, 2011
By monkeys mama I don't get the hype? Homeschooling mom of two here and I have several other math programs but was told time and time again that Singapore was the best. Really? I'm not blown away. They seem like standard word problems you can get anywhere or make yourself.
Example:
Joe has 99 marbles. He has 35 more marbles than Ellie. How many marbles does Joe have?
We are not all the way through the 3rd Grade book so maybe it will improve. I know there are different versions of Singapore math and this may be the American that is altered. I'll try the web site for the next one.
