Great solid math bookMar 30, 2010
By L. Hanson Saxon Math is a solid reliable math program. It offers mental math practice, timed math facts practice, a lesson, lesson practice, and then mixed practice with each lesson. Each mixed practice has problems that review all kinds of math problems covered previously in the book so that your child has to recognize the type of problem and then decide how to solve it rather than learning by rote. I am using the Saxon Math program with a ten-year-old and a seven-year-old and each is thriving with it. I think it encourages deeper understanding with clear explanations and lots of practice. Anyone can teach from this book because it is so well written and the material so well presented.
Love Saxon MathMay 19, 2011
By C. M. Morris Really love this math program. Works great for my home schooled son and myself. I could never call my son an 'eager student', but Saxon's repetition of needed facts, gradual introduction of new information and periodic review works well for us.

Intense but still goodDec 30, 2008
By Stay at home mommy Like other Saxon the book is loaded with review and goes over the same concepts over and over BUT these are intense concepts and your child needs to go over them again and again. Be sure to do mental math too--the mental math exercises are good for parents too and worth the price of the book!
