Gives an amazing math foundation that pays off laterSep 18, 2010

We used the Saxon Math Home Study Kit with the manipulatives kit when I homeschooled my daughter and she went on to excel in higher maths even though I had never gone past Algebra I and had struggled with that. The Saxon math kit is so comprehensive, and teaches many different math concepts from multiple angles, that I believe it gave her a much more solid foundation for understanding math concepts than I'd had. For instance "skip counting" -- when I was in school they taught you to count by 2's and by 3's, but Saxon calls it skip counting, takes it further, and kids are learning multiplication without even realizing it. Also, I had never thought of calendars and time as math concepts, but these are part of the daily exercises. At first I was concerned - it took us about 1 1/2 hours every day to do all of the daily work, much of which was hands-on with both of us; it felt like it used up a big chunk of the school day every day. But when my daughter was in high school and passed Trigonometry and Pre-calculus at the University, I was so glad we had spent the time to lay a great foundation. She even paid to take an extra Algebra class at the University because she missed Algebra and loved doing it! I also used the Family Math book and did games and exercises from that as well.

I loved this Saxon Study KitAug 18, 2010
By hypermom I loved this grade of Saxon Study kits, both my boys used it.... I was asked to review this and I am glad to do so, because I found this Saxon kit interesting at this grade level. I love math and teaching math, however at the lower levels it can be shear boredom.... Saxon has made it interesting for someone who loves Math, to teach Math at this early level.... I love the fact that Saxon integrates Geometry into all it's grade levels like Geometry should be.... Also pre-Algebra is integrated throughout the Math series till you get to actual Algebra.... Geometry and Algebra are my two favorite Math subjects and I have no complaints about how Saxon introduces them in at young ages.... So if you cannot find what you need at this ISBN number, you can also find these items or parts of this kit at the location for the teacher's book, where it is also sold as teacher's set with Teacher's book, Meeting Book, and flash cards, just need to purchase study workbooks separately... I recommend this series and this grade of Saxon math.....
