Description:

Combining the exciting style of manga graphics with biography, history, and science, these dynamic accounts of great leaders are accessible and entertaining to today's children, as well as educational—each story is accompanied by a time line that puts the story's events in historical perspective. Visually stunning, this series is a beautiful illustration of important people and events, sure to hook young readers on history and the written word. Manga, one of the fastest growing segments of children's literature, is incredibly popular amongst school-age children and lends itself exceptionally well to the vivid stories in this series.

A genius of enormous accomplishment, Albert Einstein overcame numerous hardships—separation from his family, religious discrimination, and the political turmoil of his day—to become one of the greatest minds of the 20th century. As a young boy, Einstein’s unending curiosity and constant questioning earned him the reputation of being unfocused and inattentive. His story, enriched by a glossary of scientific terms and a time line, will inspire young readers as they learn what drove one the most gifted scientists who ever lived.

5Adults enjoyed it tooNov 29, 2008

This book ended up in our guest bathroom and many friends of all ages got caught up in it. A very readable way to learn about Einstein's life and times. We are looking for more YKids titles.

5Saved my rear and then someJan 14, 2012

This was a (rare) totally unplanned purchase. I had taken the boys to the science museum an hour before the planetarium show, intending to spend some time in the exhibits - but it turned out the museum was closing just as we got there! We ducked in to the gift shop, but my 8 yo was in tears. I looked at all the books hoping to find something which would capture his imagination, and chose this one. He loves math and space, and comic books, and I adore Einstein, so it seemed like a good bet.

He LOVED it! Once I started reading, he was totally focused. It helps that the story is introduced by a magical creature, and starts when Einstein is a young kid. A freind showed up about 20 minutes before the show, and my son would go off with his freind for 2 minutes, and then come back and ask me to read another page.

Tonight when I went to tuck him in, he was reading it himself! This kid has only started reading voluntarily this year, so this was huge for us!

Of course, the book talks about Einstein breaking the classics laws of motion, but doesnt explain them . . .so now we need more physics books. But i'm really not complaining.
